Editorial policy
The standards we hold our own pages to, written down so you can hold us to them.
Everything is original
All written content on OSRS Helper is produced for this site. We do not copy, scrape or paraphrase text from the OSRS Wiki, from other fan sites, or from video guides.
Game facts are not ours to own — a quest’s requirements are the same wherever you read them — but the writing around them is. Where another source is genuinely better for something, we link to it.
Estimates are labelled as estimates
GP per hour, experience per hour and profit figures depend on prices, gear, level and how consistently someone plays. We present them as ranges, and every page carrying them states that they fluctuate.
We do not publish a single GP/hr number as though it were a fact, and we do not quote the best-case rate as the expected one. Where a figure can be calculated from live market data instead of estimated, we calculate it and timestamp it.
We describe data accurately
Price data on this site comes from recent player trades, published by the RuneScape Wiki real-time API. It is a snapshot, not a live feed, so we say when it was fetched rather than describing it as live.
Where a metric is a proxy for something else, we name it as what it is. Our market tables show “vs 24h average” rather than “24h change”, because the upstream feed publishes a rolling mean rather than the price at a fixed point in the past, and calling one the other would be wrong. Details are on the data sources page.
Update dates mean something
Every guide carries a published date and a last-updated date. The updated date changes when the content changes — a corrected figure, a rewritten section, a new recommendation after a game update.
It does not change because a build ran, because a script touched the file, or to make a page look fresher than it is. A timestamp that moves without the content moving is a small dishonesty, and small dishonesties are how a resource stops being trustworthy.
Price pages are different. They genuinely update from market data, continuously, and they show the fetch time rather than an editorial date.
Pages exist because they are useful
We do not publish a page to occupy a search result. Every page should answer a question better than the alternatives, and where it cannot, it should not exist.
In practice this means: item pages with no market data are excluded from search indexing rather than published as thin content; filtered and sorted views are canonicalised back to the page they filter; and category pages only exist where the category has something specific to say beyond the list it contains.
Where we have not written something yet — a quest walkthrough, a skill route — the page says so plainly and links somewhere that has it, instead of padding.
Nothing here is gated
No calculator, market screen, item page or guide on this site is limited, degraded or withheld behind a signup, an account or a payment. Everything works for everyone.
Should we ever introduce advertising, affiliate links or a product of our own, they will be disclosed on the page carrying them.
Corrections
If something here is wrong, we would rather know. Report it through the contact page. Factual errors are corrected as soon as we can confirm them, and where a correction is significant we note what changed rather than quietly editing the page.
Game mechanics can change
Jagex updates Old School RuneScape constantly. Tax rates, buy limits, drop rates, training methods and item values all change with patches. We keep game-mechanic constants in one place in our codebase so they can be corrected everywhere at once, but a page written before an update may still describe the previous state.
If a figure here matters for a large decision, confirm it in game first. That is good advice for any third-party source, including this one.
