About this quest

Doric the dwarf will let you use his anvils if you bring him ore. It is a pure fetch quest with no combat, no travel to speak of, and no way to fail.

Everything he asks for is cheap on the Grand Exchange, which turns the quest into a two-minute errand. Mining it yourself is possible and considerably slower — the clay in particular is a nuisance at low levels.

Why do it: 1,300 Mining experience is enormous at low level — it takes a fresh account to around level 10 on its own, skipping the slowest part of the skill. It is also a Mining 10 requirement met for The Knight's Sword.

What makes this quicker

  • Buy the ores instead of mining them. The quantities are small and the Grand Exchange price is trivial next to the trip to a mine.

Walkthrough

01The ore

Six clay, four copper ore and two iron ore. Buying all twelve costs very little and removes the only tedious part of the quest.

  1. 1

Buy 6 clay, 4 copper ore and 2 iron ore from the Grand Exchange.

    • Clay
    • Copper ore
    • Iron ore
  2. 2

Mining them yourself needs Mining 1 for clay and copper and Mining 15 for iron, so a fresh account cannot gather the whole list without training first.

This is the trap: a new account tries to mine the iron, finds it needs level 15, and spends an hour on a quest that should take two minutes.

02Delivering

  1. 1

Doric is north of Falador, on the path towards Taverley. Speak to him and hand the ore over.

What to do next

The Mining experience does the real work here: from nothing to around level 10 in one hand-in, which covers the Mining 10 requirement for The Knight's Sword — itself one of the best early Smithing rewards in the game.

Doric's anvils are close to the Falador bank, which makes them a reasonable place to train Smithing early, though most players use the Varrock anvils instead.
