About this quest
The Fairy Queen is ill and an impostor is sitting on her throne. The quest is a diagnosis puzzle — gather evidence, work out the cure, brew it — with one short fight in the middle.
It is the quest that makes fairy rings genuinely usable. After Lost City you can enter Zanaris; after this you can travel the whole network freely, which changes how you move around the map for the rest of the account's life.
It also has a real-time wait built into it near the start, which surprises people who think something has broken.
Why do it: Free use of the fairy ring network, which is one of the best travel systems in the game, plus magic secateurs — a permanent boost to farming yields.
Walkthrough
01Reaching the Fairy Queen
Fairytale II is short for a quest of its rating, and it is worth doing early for one reason that has nothing to do with the story: it is what turns fairy rings into a travel network you use for the rest of the account.
- 1
Bring a dramen or lunar staff. Nothing about the fairy realm works without one and there is no way around it mid-quest.
- 2
Speak to the Fairy Godfather and then find Martin the Master Gardener. The early conversations are the quest telling you the Queen is missing rather than ill.
- 3
Follow the sequence to the Fairy Queen's hiding place. This is the section where the fairy rings first become usable, so read what you are told about the codes.
02Unlocking the rings
The ring network is the real reward and it is switched on partway through, not at the end. Once it is on, the rest of the quest is much less walking.
- 1
Complete the ring-unlocking step when it comes. From this point you can travel by ring, which changes how the remaining errands feel.
- 2
Regroup with the fairies. The quest then asks for magic essence, which is where the two gathering steps come in.
03Magic essence
Two ingredients, gathered in two different places. Both are short, but the Gorak is a real fight and the star flower is easy to walk past.
- 1
Find the star flower in the fairy resistance area. It is a pick-up rather than a puzzle, but it is small and easy to miss.
- 2
Kill a Gorak for its claws. Goraks hit reasonably hard and there is no safespot to rely on, so bring food rather than planning to tank it.
This is the only combat in the quest. Do not arrive at it with an empty inventory after the gathering steps.
- 3
Grind the claws with a pestle and mortar and combine with a vial of water to make the magic essence.

- Vial of water
04Curing her
- 1
Take the essence back and administer it. The closing scene runs itself.
- 2
Fairy rings are now fully open. Learn the handful of codes you will actually use rather than the whole list — the network only saves time if you know where you are going before you arrive.
What to do next
Fairy rings are now free to use with a dramen staff equipped. Learning a handful of codes — DKR for Ardougne monastery, CKR for Canifis, BJS for the Shilo Village area — saves an enormous amount of running.
Magic secateurs increase herb yields when used to harvest, which pays for itself many times over if you do herb runs at all. Keep them with your farming gear.
