Learning the Ropes

01Tutorial Island

The tutorial, now counted as a quest. A flashing arrow marks the next thing to click throughout, so this is orientation rather than a route.

1. 1

   Set your appearance in the character creator. Every option here can be changed for free later with a Makeover, so do not agonise over it.

2. 2

   Say you are new when asked how familiar you are with the game to switch Adventure Paths on. It hands out basic gear, including mithril, for hitting early milestones.

02The instructors

Each hut teaches one interface and one skill. They must be done in order and the door out only opens when the current one is finished.

   Gielinor Guide: movement and the settings interface. Left click to walk, right click for the full list of options on anything.

   Survival Expert, east: fish shrimp with the small net, then light a fire and cook them.

3. 3

   Master Chef, west: use the pot of flour on the bucket of water for dough, then use the dough on the range.

4. 4

   Quest Guide: open the quest list. Mining Instructor below: mine tin and copper, smelt a bronze bar at the furnace, then hammer out a bronze dagger at the anvil.

03Combat and the mainland

1. 1

   Combat Instructor: equip the dagger, then the sword and shield he gives you, and kill the rats in the pen. He then hands you a bow to do it again at range.

2. 2

   Account Guide: the bank booth holds the 25 coins you start with. Brother Brace covers prayer and bone burying, and the Magic Instructor gives you air and mind runes.

3. 3

   Cast Wind Strike on a chicken in the northern pen to finish the quest, then cast Lumbridge Home Teleport when the instructor offers it.

   You are asked about Ironman mode just before you leave. That choice is made here and is not casually reversible, so decide before you click through it.
