High Level Alchemy

Cast High Level Alchemy on items worth less than their alch value, converting them into GP while training Magic.

F2PBeginnerNo riskLow attention

High Level Alchemy converts an item into coins at a fixed rate set by the game rather than the market. When an item trades below that fixed rate plus the cost of a nature rune, alching it is profitable.

You get roughly 1,200 casts an hour, which is about 78,000 Magic experience. That makes it one of the few ways to train a skill and make money simultaneously rather than choosing between the two.

Profit per cast is usually small, so the method lives or dies on finding items with both a positive margin and a buy limit large enough to keep you supplied.

Because the alch value never changes, this method effectively puts a floor under every item in the game. Anything trading below its alch value is being sold at a loss by someone, which is why those opportunities close quickly.

It combines well with anything that needs your eyes but not your hands — a long walk, a Slayer task on a safe spot, waiting on Grand Exchange offers. The experience arrives regardless of what else you were doing.

What you actually do

  1. 1Find an item whose Grand Exchange price is comfortably below its high alchemy value, after the cost of a nature rune.
  2. 2Buy a full buy limit of it, plus nature runes and a staff that supplies the fire runes.
  3. 3Cast High Level Alchemy on the stack, one cast every few seconds.
  4. 4Repeat when the buy limit resets, and re-check the margin before each batch.

Getting the most from it

  • Use a fire staff so you only pay for nature runes. Buying fire runes separately eats most of the margin.
  • The profitable items change constantly as prices move. Re-check before every batch rather than assuming last week's item still works.
  • Alching pays Magic experience as well as gp, which is what makes it worth doing at a rate that would otherwise be unremarkable.
  • It stacks well with anything that needs attention elsewhere — the casting is one click every few seconds and does not need you to move.
