About this quest

Ali Morrisane's nephew has gone missing in Pollnivneach, and finding him means getting caught between two gangs who hate each other more than they dislike you. The quest is a long comedy of errands with no serious combat.

It is done almost universally for one reward: blackjacking. Blackjacks are the best Thieving experience in the game for a very long stretch, and the difference between training Thieving with and without them is measured in days.

Why do it: Blackjacking, which is the fastest Thieving training from level 45 onward by a wide margin, plus 15,000 Thieving experience on completion.

Walkthrough

01Getting to Pollnivneach

  1. 1

Talk to Ali Morrisane by the silk stall in Al Kharid.

  2. 2

Buy the Kharidian headpiece and fake beard from him and combine them into a desert disguise now rather than later.

    • Fake beard

The disguise is needed part-way through. Making it up front saves a long trip back to Al Kharid.

02The two gangs

  1. 1

Go to the bar in the south-east of Pollnivneach and buy three beers from Ali the Barman.

    • Beer
  2. 2

Use each beer on Drunken Ali in turn, finishing each conversation before starting the next.

  3. 3

Talk to a Menaphite thug at the purple and yellow tent west of the bar, and to the bandits by the general store, to hear both sides.

  4. 4

Talk to Ali the Camel Man at the camel store north-west of the bar.

03Working through it

  1. 1

The quest becomes a chain of errands for both gangs, each unlocking the next. Follow the conversations rather than trying to plan ahead.

  2. 2

It ends with a confrontation and the blackjack unlock. Keep the disguise on you throughout.

What to do next

Buy a blackjack and start on the bandits in Pollnivneach. The technique — lure, knock out, pickpocket twice — takes a few minutes to learn and then carries Thieving for dozens of levels.

The desert is also where Desert Treasure begins, and Pollnivneach is on the route south, so it is a reasonable time to look at that chain if your combat is up to it.
