About this quest

Squire Asrol has lost Sir Vyvin's ceremonial sword and needs a replacement made before anyone notices. There is no combat anywhere in the quest, and the whole thing is a chain of errands across Asgarnia.

It is worth doing early and specifically for the reward. 12,725 Smithing experience takes an account from nothing to around level 29 in one hand-in, which skips the slowest and least rewarding stretch of the skill entirely.

Why do it: The Smithing experience is enormous relative to the quest's length — it is the single fastest route out of low-level Smithing in free-to-play.

What makes this quicker

  • Buy the two iron bars and the redberry pie before you go anywhere near Falador.
  • The Ice Mountain trip is the long part. Go once, with everything, rather than discovering the pie is missing when you arrive.

Walkthrough

01Finding the smith

  1. 1

Talk to the Squire in the courtyard of the White Knights' Castle in Falador.

  2. 2

Ask Reldo about the Imcando dwarves. He is in the Varrock Palace library, the northernmost room on the ground floor.

  3. 3

Find Thurgo south of Port Sarim at Mudskipper Point, by the anvil. Give him a redberry pie before asking for anything.

    • Redberry pie

Thurgo will not engage with you at all until he has been fed. Bring the pie with you rather than walking back for it.

02The portrait

  1. 1

Thurgo needs a picture of the sword. Go back to the Squire, who remembers a portrait of Sir Vyvin's father holding it.

  2. 2

Search the cupboard in Sir Vyvin's bedroom for the portrait — while he is not looking at you.

If Vyvin is facing you the search fails silently. Wait for him to turn away rather than clicking repeatedly and assuming it is broken.

03Blurite ore

The ore only exists in one place, and the route through the dungeon is short but easy to get lost in.

  1. 1

Enter the Asgarnian Ice Dungeon through the trapdoor east of Thurgo.

  2. 2

Follow the path west, then north, then east, keeping to the southern wall in the icy section, and mine a blurite ore.

Ice giants and ice warriors roam this dungeon and hit hard for a low-level account. Run the route rather than fighting.

    • 3

Take the ore and the portrait to Thurgo, then bring the finished sword back to the Squire.

    What to do next

Around Smithing 29 from a standing start is the practical reward, and it puts you within reach of the levels where Smithing starts producing things worth selling.

Mining 10 is a requirement here and also for Doric's Quest, so if you have not done that one it is a two-minute detour with another large Mining reward attached.
