The Blast Furnace halves the coal required per bar, and with gold — which needs no coal at all — the draw is different: goldsmith gauntlets make gold bars one of the fastest sources of Smithing experience in the game.

The profit per bar is thin. Most players here are buying experience at a discount rather than making money, and the gp is what stops it costing anything.

Ice gloves let you take bars straight from the dispenser without waiting for them to cool, which is a large fraction of the rate.

Under Smithing 60 the foreman charges an entry fee every ten minutes. Above it, entry is free and the method becomes considerably more comfortable.

What you actually do

1Travel to the Blast Furnace in Keldagrim and pay the foreman if you are under level 60 Smithing.
2Bring gold ore and the ice gloves, and load ore onto the conveyor.
3Collect the gold bars from the dispenser and bank them.
4Repeat — the bank is inside the room.

The furnace needs coke to run. On a busy world other players keep it fed; on a quiet one you do it yourself.
