Bulk item investing
Hold items over days or weeks expecting a price rise, rather than trading the immediate spread.
Bulk investing is buying an item because you expect it to be worth more later, rather than because of a spread you can capture today. It is the longest-horizon method on this site.
The usual reasons a price moves are game updates, changes to how an item is obtained, and shifts in what content players are doing. All three are researchable in advance.
Capital is locked while you wait, sometimes for weeks. That opportunity cost is real and should be counted against whatever the position eventually returns.
It is the highest-variance method here. Being wrong does not cost you a trip of supplies — it costs you the difference on your entire stack, which is why position sizing matters more than item selection.
What you actually do
- 1Identify an item whose price is depressed for a reason you understand and that you expect to reverse.
- 2Accumulate over several buy-limit cycles rather than all at once, so you are not bidding against yourself.
- 3Hold. This is the part that takes weeks, and the capital is unavailable throughout.
- 4Sell into strength gradually rather than dumping the position in one listing.
Getting the most from it
- This is not flipping. Flipping earns from the spread; investing earns from a price change, and it needs capital you can leave idle for a long time.
- Have a reason. "It looks cheap" is not one — know what depressed the price and why that will change.
- Size it so that being wrong is survivable. Investments go wrong more often than spreads do.
- Updates are the main driver of the price changes worth trading here, and they are announced in advance. Read the notes.
