Grand Exchange flipping

Buy items below their going rate and sell them above it, taking the spread minus the 2% sale tax.

Flipping is the only money-making method in the game that scales purely with capital rather than with levels. A player with 100k and a player with 500m can use exactly the same technique; the larger stack simply earns more per cycle.

The mechanics are simple. You place a buy offer slightly above the current sell-instantly price, wait for it to fill, then place a sell offer slightly below the current buy-instantly price. What is left after the Grand Exchange takes its 2% is your profit.

The difficulty is not in the mechanics but in choosing items. A wide margin on an item that trades forty times a day is worthless; a narrow margin on an item that trades two million times a day is excellent. Volume and buy limits matter more than the headline spread.

What you actually do

  1. 1Screen for candidates: volume first, then margin after tax, then whether you can afford a full buy limit.
  2. 2Place buy offers slightly above the sell-instantly price on four to eight items.
  3. 3As each fills, immediately list it slightly below the buy-instantly price.
  4. 4Return every few hours to collect, re-buy anything whose four-hour window has reset, and re-price anything stuck.

Getting the most from it

  • Check the 24-hour volume before anything else. If an item barely trades, the margin is theoretical.
  • Your buy limit caps how much you can earn per four-hour cycle on any single item. Spread across several items to use all your slots.
  • Never chase a falling price. If your buy offer fills instantly, the price may be dropping through you.
  • Buy the full limit or none of it. A small test purchase starts the four-hour clock on the whole allowance.
  • Keep a shortlist of eight to twelve items you know well rather than searching fresh each session. Familiarity is what lets you spot something genuinely unusual.
