Motherlode Mine
Mine pay-dirt for a mix of ores and the prospector outfit. Steady rather than spectacular, and very forgiving.
The Motherlode Mine trades rate for attention. You mine pay-dirt rather than ore, wash it through a machine, and collect a mixed output from a sack — which means you are never watching a specific rock deplete.
That indirection is the appeal. It is one of the most AFK-friendly Mining methods in the game, and the ores it produces skew toward the valuable end at higher Mining levels.
The prospector outfit is bought with golden nuggets from this same activity, so an early stretch of the grind pays for the experience bonus on the rest of it.
The upper level requires Mining 72 and is a substantial rate increase. If you are close to that level it is worth reaching before settling in here.
What you actually do
- 1Travel to the Motherlode Mine beneath Falador.
- 2Mine pay-dirt from the ore veins until your inventory is full.
- 3Deposit it into the hopper and collect the ore from the sack.
- 4Repeat, repairing struts if you want the extra sack capacity.
Getting the most from it
- The prospector outfit adds experience and is bought with golden nuggets from this same activity.
- Upper level veins are worth the Mining level requirement — the rate difference is large.
- It is AFK-friendly compared with most Mining, which is a large part of why people use it.
