Merlin's Crystal

Ask King Arthur at Camelot, east of Seers' Village, to join the Knights of the Round Table. He asks you to free Merlin from a crystal first.

Ask Sir Gawain how Merlin got trapped — he blames Morgan Le Faye — then ask Sir Lancelot how to get into her keep. He mentions deliveries arriving by boat from Catherby.

Go to Catherby and pick up the insect repellent from the table in Perdu's house north of the bank if you do not already have a bucket of wax.

With combat gear on, hide in the crates against the back of the Candle Shop, just north of the dock. You get packed up and shipped into the keep.

Climb up when prompted, then go to the top floor and fight Sir Mordred, level 39.

Morgan Le Faye interrupts to beg for her son's life. Agree to spare him.

Do not land the killing blow or break the conversation — running out of Prayer counts as breaking it — or you fight Mordred all over again.

Bat bones: kill the giant bats outside the keep. Once you leave, the only way back in is the Catherby crates.

Black candle: take a bucket of wax to the candle maker in his house west of Catherby bank. Ask about black candles, then talk again to hand over the wax. Wax comes from the beehives north of the keep, which need the repellent or a beekeeper's outfit.

The words: check the chaos altar in the Zamorakian chapel in south-east Varrock. They are Snarthon Candtrick Termanto, and you must finish the dialogue for it to count.

Return to Camelot and find the magical symbol on the north-east side of the garden, just inside the fence.

Light the black candle and drop the bat bones in the circle.

Drop the bones. Burying them destroys them and you will be back out killing bats for more.

Thrantax the Mighty appears and offers a list of phrases. Choose Snarthon Candtrick Termanto. Getting it wrong means a new black candle and another attempt.

With the spirit bound, break the crystal and report back to King Arthur.
