01Find a partner first

This is the one free-to-play quest you cannot finish alone. Sort the partner out before you start rather than after.

1. 1

   You must team up with another player who joins the opposing gang. The official OSRS SOA chat channel is where people arrange this, mostly for free.

   Your partner has to pick the other gang. If you both join the same one, neither of you can finish.

2. 2

   Ironmen and trade-restricted accounts can still complete it by using the key and certificate halves on their partner rather than trading them.

02Choosing a gang

1. 1

   Talk to Reldo in the Varrock Palace library, the northernmost ground-floor room, and ask for a quest.

2. 2

   Search the bookcase with the blue and white book on the top shelf, on the east side of the short bookcases in the middle of the room. Read the book, then tell Reldo you have read it.

3. 3

   Join the Phoenix Gang through Baraek the fur trader in the market, or the Black Arm Gang through Charlie the Tramp by the southern gate. Phoenix partners are easier to find, which is worth knowing before you pick.

03Certificates

1. 1

   Take your half of the shield to Curator Haig Halen in the Varrock Museum. He gives you two copies of your half of the certificate.

2. 2

   If you intend to help other players later, ask him again for spare certificate halves now — you cannot get them once the quest is finished.

3. 3

   Swap halves with your partner, use the two halves on each other, and take the completed certificate back to the Curator.
