Birdhouse runs are the least demanding passive method in the game. Four birdhouses, roughly five minutes of work, and then fifty minutes where the game does something for you while you are elsewhere.

The output is bird nests, which contain seeds, rings and occasionally clue scrolls. Seed value is what carries the rate, and it varies with what the farming market is paying.

Bone Voyage is the gate, since the birdhouses are on Fossil Island. It is a modest quest relative to what it unlocks here.

Nobody does birdhouses as their main activity. They are something you slot in around whatever else you were doing, which is exactly the point.

What you actually do

1Make four birdhouses from logs at a crafting level you meet, and bring hunter seeds to bait them.
2Travel to the four spots on Fossil Island, dismantle the old houses and set new ones.
3Collect the loot from each — bird nests, seeds and the occasional clue.
4Come back in about fifty minutes. The timer runs whether you are online or not.

Getting the most from it

This is one of the few genuinely passive methods in the game. The run itself takes about five minutes and the rest happens while you are elsewhere.
Use the best logs your Hunter level allows — the experience and the nest quality both scale with the tier.
Stack it with a herb run. The timers are different lengths, but doing both when you log in costs almost no extra time.
Seeds from nests are where most of the value is, not the Hunter experience.
