About this quest
Duke Horacio has found a strange talisman and wants it taken to the Wizards' Tower. The quest is three conversations and two walks, with no combat and no requirements at all.
It matters far more than its length suggests: Runecraft is completely inaccessible until this is finished. Not partially, not slowly — the skill does not exist for an account that has not done Rune Mysteries.
Because the walking is the whole quest, doing it early while you are around Lumbridge anyway is worth more than doing it later with teleports.
Why do it: It is the only way to unlock Runecraft, and it opens the rune essence mine that every later Runecraft method depends on.
What makes this quicker
- There is nothing to bring and nothing to buy — it is three conversations. Chain it with anything else you are doing in Varrock or Draynor rather than making a trip for it.
Walkthrough
01The talisman
- 1
Talk to Duke Horacio on the first floor of Lumbridge Castle and ask whether he has any quests. He hands over an air talisman and asks you to take it to the Wizards' Tower.
- Air talisman
- 2
Go to the Wizards' Tower south of Draynor Village and climb down the ladder into the basement.
- 3
Speak to Archmage Sedridor. He takes the talisman and gives you a research package for Aubury.
02The delivery
Aubury's shop is south-east of Varrock's east bank. The walk is the longest part of the quest.
- 1
Take the research package to Aubury in his rune shop. He gives you research notes to bring back.
- 2
Return to Sedridor in the Wizards' Tower basement with the notes to finish. He gives the talisman back and explains how Runecraft works.
What to do next
Runecraft is now available, and Aubury will teleport you to the rune essence mine on request — which is how essence is gathered for every method in the skill.
The air talisman you keep lets you enter the Air Altar south-west of Falador. Air runes are the cheapest thing to craft and the standard starting point for the skill.
You are already at the Wizards' Tower, so Imp Catcher is a minute away if you have not done it.
