About this quest
Rantz is a hungry ogre with a bow too large for ordinary arrows, and he wants help hunting chompy birds. The quest is an extended crafting exercise carried out entirely in the Feldip Hills, with almost no combat.
Everything is made on site from things you gather there, which is why the item list looks unusual. Nothing in it can be bought, and the quest cannot be shortcut with money.
Chompy hats are the long-term reward — a cosmetic set earned by killing chompies afterwards, and one of the older completionist targets in the game.
Why do it: It unlocks chompy bird hunting and the hat set, gives Fletching, Cooking and Ranged experience, and is a requirement for the Recipe for Disaster subquest that frees the Skrach Uglogwee.
Walkthrough
01Making ogre arrows
Four separate gathering steps, all within a short walk of Rantz. Doing them in this order avoids doubling back.

Talk to Rantz in the Feldip Hills. He wants arrows that fit his oversized bow.

Kill wolves in the crater south-west of Rantz for wolf bones, then use a chisel on them for wolfbone arrowtips.

Chop achey trees nearby for achey tree logs and use a knife on them to make ogre arrow shafts.

Add feathers to the shafts, then attach the wolfbone tips.

02Luring and shooting

Use the ogre bellows on a swamp bubble to fill it with gas, then on a swamp toad to make a bloated toad.

Drop a bloated toad on the marked spot, then step back — close enough to see it, far enough not to scare the bird.
Standing on top of the bait is the usual mistake. Keep it in view from a distance or nothing lands.

Rantz shoots and misses. Offer to take over and he hands you the ogre bow.

Wield the bow and arrows and shoot the chompy when it appears. Place more toads if it leaves before you land the kill.
What to do next
Chompy hats are earned by killing chompies in quantity afterwards, with a new hat at each milestone. It is a long-term goal rather than something to finish now.
This quest unlocks one of the Recipe for Disaster subquests, so it is worth having done if Barrows gloves are on your list.
