About this quest
Almera's son is stranded downriver at Baxtorian Falls, and behind the rescue sits the treasure of the elven king Baxtorian. The quest has no requirements of any kind — not a single level, not a single prior quest.
That is why it is famous. It hands out 13,750 experience in both Attack and Strength, which takes a level 3 account to roughly level 30 in both, in about half an hour and with no fighting required at all.
For most new members accounts this is the single highest-value thing available. Doing it before training combat manually saves many hours that would otherwise be spent on the slowest levels in the game.
Why do it: 13,750 experience in both Attack and Strength with no requirements — the fastest route out of low-level melee in the game, and it involves no combat.
What makes this quicker
- This is the fastest early Attack and Strength experience in the game and none of it requires fighting. Do it before training either skill, not after.
- Nothing in the quest needs combat if you keep moving, so bring inventory space rather than gear.
Walkthrough
01What to bring
Waterfall Quest is famous for having no requirements at all and paying 13,750 experience in both Attack and Strength. A level 3 account can finish it, which is exactly why so many people do it first.
- 1
Bring a rope, and six each of air, water and earth runes for the pillar puzzle at the end.
- Rope
- Air rune
- Water rune
- Earth rune
- 2
Bring almost nothing else. There is no fighting you cannot avoid, and the final room eats anything you are carrying.
Items left on the floor of the six-pillar chamber are destroyed the moment you use the amulet on the statue. Drop nothing in there you want back.
- 3
Leave five inventory slots free for the reward at the end.
02Starting at Baxtorian Falls
- 1
Speak to Almera in her house at Baxtorian Falls, south of the Barbarian Outpost. She is worried about her son Hudon, who is stuck downriver.
- 2
Board the log raft outside and talk to Hudon on the island. He will not come back, which is the point.
- 3
Use your rope on the rock, then on the dead tree, then climb into the barrel to get past the falls.
- Rope
- 4
Head north-west, climb the stairs on the south wall, and search the bookcases for the book on Baxtorian. Read it — it names what you are looking for.
03Glarial's pebble
The pebble is the key to the tomb, and it is nowhere near the waterfall. This is the detour that catches people out.
- 1
Travel to Tree Gnome Village, north-west of Yanille, and follow the path east into the dungeon.
- 2
Search the off-coloured crate near the entrance of the room for a key.
- 3
Go west, open the gate with the key, and speak to Golrie. He gives you Glarial's pebble.
04Glarial's tomb
- 1
Go to Glarial's tomb, south of the Baxtorian Falls, and use the pebble on the tombstone to get in.
- 2
Take Glarial's amulet and Glarial's urn from inside. You need both for the ending, and going back for either is a long walk.
05The chamber behind the falls
- 1
Return to the waterfall and go back through the barrel route. Equip Glarial's amulet and enter the door.
- 2
Follow the path right and search the crates for a key, then take it back to the door on the left. There are fire giants down here — you can run past them, but do not linger.
The fire giants hit hard for a low-level account. Run the route rather than fighting; nothing in this dungeon needs killing.
- 3
In the six-pillar chamber, use one air, one water and one earth rune on each of the six pillars.
- Air rune
- Water rune
- Earth rune
- 4
Use Glarial's amulet on the Statue of Glarial, then Glarial's urn on the Chalice of Eternity. Finish the dialogue and take the reward from the ground that rises.
What to do next
Your combat level jumped without you touching a weapon. The sensible next step is to bring Defence up to match, because Attack and Strength in the 30s with Defence 1 makes most content more dangerous than it needs to be.
The mithril seeds are worth keeping rather than selling; they grow flowers and are one of the few genuinely irreplaceable rewards in the game.
With combat around 30 you are now in range of the quests that were previously too dangerous — Vampyre Slayer, Fight Arena and eventually Dragon Slayer I.
