About Attack

Attack controls how often your melee hits land and gates the weapons you can equip. It does not affect how hard you hit — that is Strength — but a high Attack level makes a big difference against armoured targets.

Most players train Attack alongside Strength and Defence by choosing a combat style and letting the experience accumulate. It is rarely trained in isolation.

Fastest training

Rates assume an attentive player with the gear and unlocks that make each method work. Real sessions include banking, breaks and mistakes.

Controlled or accurate training on Sand Crabs

Levels 1–9915,000–40,000 xp/hr

Sand Crabs on Crandor and Hosidius have high hitpoints, low damage and respawn quickly, which makes them the standard low-effort melee training target. Bring food early on, then almost none once your Defence catches up.

Nightmare Zone

Levels 60–9940,000–80,000 xp/hr

Absorption potions and a Dharok set turn NMZ into near-unattended melee training. Set it up correctly and it is the highest passive melee experience in the game.

Slayer

Levels any20,000–50,000 xp/hr

Slower per hour than dedicated training, but it pays you and levels Slayer at the same time. Most players training combat seriously do it through Slayer.

Other approaches

Profitable
Training Attack through Slayer turns combat experience into drops rather than a food bill.
AFK
Nightmare Zone with absorptions, or Sand Crabs with a high Defence level, both need very little input.
Free-to-play
Train on chickens and cows to start, then move to the Stronghold of Security or Al Kharid warriors. Free players cap at 99 like everyone else.

Useful quests

Quest experience is often worth far more than the time it takes, particularly at low levels where the curve is shallowest.
