About this quest
The Myreque have spent five quests preparing to strike at Vanstrom Klause, and this is where that line pays off. It is a Master quest set almost entirely in Morytania, ending in Darkmeyer with the vampyre nobility.
It is a genuine step up in combat from the rest of the series. Vanstrom ambushes you with no preparation gap, and the fight assumes you can switch prayers and manage supplies under pressure.
The rewards are among the best in the mid-to-late game: Darkmeyer as a permanent area, blisterwood weapons that are exceptional against vampyres, and a large jump in Slayer viability for the vampyre task types.
Why do it: Darkmeyer, the blisterwood weapons, and a very large experience reward. It also makes vampyre Slayer tasks genuinely profitable rather than something to skip.
Walkthrough
01Getting to Slepe
Sins of the Father is a master quest and the requirements are the easy part. Set aside real time for it, and do not start it as the last thing you do in an evening.
- 1
Travel to Slepe. Drakan's medallion to Ver Sinhaza and then north is the fast route; the Ectophial and a boat from the dock north of the Ectofuntus is the slow one.
The boat costs 10,000 coins. The medallion is free, and can be reclaimed for nothing from Kael beneath Old Man Ral's if you have lost it.
- 2
Speak to Veliaf Hurtz outside the church. The town has a sleeping sickness and he wants the source of it found while he works on the manor.
- 3
Talk to Hameln the Jester inside the church. His companion fell ill after a visit to the local pub, which is the thread the quest pulls on.
02Following Carl
This is the part people fail. It is a stealth sequence with a hard reset — being spotted once puts you back at the beginning, so it is worth reading the whole route before you start it.
- 1
Talk to Carl the barkeep at The Rat & Bat about where his bloody bracers come from. He gets evasive, which is the point.
- 2
Inspect the barrel behind the pub. He is nearly out of stock, so he will be going for more.
- 3
Follow him. He stops and turns around periodically and you must be behind cover each time he does.
Being seen restarts the whole sequence, not the current step. Move between the marked cover rather than trailing him closely.
- 4
In order: wait at the north doors of the church until he passes, then the east side of the hollow tree north of the graves, then the north side of the hollow tree by the gallows in the square, then the west side of the hollow tree west of the graveyard.
- 5
Once he reaches the dungeon unseen, a cutscene explains the plague — the vampyres have been mixing an elixir into the bracers to make blood tithes go further.
03The rest of the quest
From here the quest is long, scripted and hard to get lost in. The two things worth planning for are the flail upgrade and the fight at the end.
- 1
Follow the journal through the Meiyerditch and Darkmeyer sections. Keep the Ivandis flail on you throughout — the upgrade to a Blisterwood flail is part of the reward and the route to it runs through these steps.
- 2
Do the enchanting step with a ruby and Lvl-3 Enchant runes, or bring an enchant ruby tablet if your Magic is short.
- 3
Bank properly before the final fight rather than walking into it with what you happen to be carrying.
The last fight is a real one. Treat it as a boss trip, not as the end of a cutscene.
- 4
Finish to unlock Darkmeyer, the Blisterwood flail and Vyrewatch Sentinel pickpocketing, which is one of the strongest Thieving methods in the game.
What to do next
Make a blisterwood weapon. The flail in particular is the best option against vampyres by a wide margin and turns a previously unpopular Slayer task into a good one.
Darkmeyer is now open, with a bank, a rune shop and access to the Vyrewatch Sentinel task area — one of the better Slayer destinations at this level.
The Myreque line is complete, which also opens the Theatre of Blood requirements further down the line if raiding is a goal.
