Not required, but expected: combat level 100 or above. You can start below that and will find the fights harder.

About this quest

The last quest in the elf series, and the one that opens Prifddinas. It is a grandmaster quest, but its real difficulty is not the route — it is the requirement list.

Level 70 in eight separate skills is months of work for most accounts, and there is no way around any of it. People routinely plan this quest, start reading, and discover the requirements afterwards; checking them first changes what you train for a considerable period.

The quest itself is long and varied: a light puzzle in the city, a great deal of exploration, and a final boss that is among the most mechanically demanding in the game.

Why do it: Prifddinas: crystal equipment, the best Agility course in the game, Zalcano, the elven Slayer dungeon and one of the best cities in the game to base an account in.

What makes this quicker

  • Block out a long session. This is one of the longest quests in the game and stopping halfway means re-reading where you were.
  • Prifddinas is the reward and it is a city, not an unlock — the crystal teleport, the Agility course and the whole district become part of your routine afterwards.

Walkthrough

01Before you commit

Song of the Elves is a grandmaster quest and one of the longest in the game. The item list is enormous and gathering it beforehand is not optional advice — it is the difference between one session and four.

  1. 1

Gather the whole item list before you start. It runs to two dozen entries and several of them are not things you keep lying around.

Bank space matters here. The quest hands you items throughout and you will be carrying a lot of it at once.

  2. 2

Set aside a long session. There is no natural stopping point in the middle, and picking it up cold means re-reading where you were.

02The insurrection

  1. 1

Start with Elena and the escape, then work through the insurrection with Arianwyn. The early sections are conversation-driven and hard to get wrong.

  2. 2

The trip to Baxtorian Falls is straightforward but slow on foot. A games necklace to the Barbarian Outpost is the shortest way in.

  3. 3

Find Lady Trahaearn and Lord Amlodd, then make the potion. This is the point where the item list starts being consumed, so check you have everything before you set off.

03The Grand Library

The library is the part of the quest people remember and the part that takes longest. You are finding nine seals, and the puzzle is a search rather than a fight.

  1. 1

Work through the nine seals — Forgotten, Ithell, Cadarn, Crwys, Amlodd, Meilyr, Hefin, Trahaearn and Iorwerth. Each is a separate search of the library.

  2. 2

The librarians move and the books they want change. Ask, fetch, return, repeat — there is no shortcut and no way to fail it permanently.

This section is long. If you are going to stop, stop here rather than mid-way through a seal.

04Reclaiming the city

  1. 1

Find Lady Hefin and Lord Crwys, recover the orb, and track down Ysgawyn. The quest opens back out into travel at this point.

  2. 2

Defend Lletya when it is attacked, then find Lady Ithell and Lady Meilyr.

  3. 3

Seal the Underground Pass. This closes off the route the Iorwerth have been using.

05The Dark Lord

The final fight is a genuine boss with four special attacks and a strict answer to each. It is the reason the quest is rated grandmaster.

  1. 1

Bring a phoenix necklace. It is the single most useful item in the fight and cheap next to what a failed attempt costs in time.

    • 2

Blood spells are the recommended approach because the fight punishes running low, and healing through your own damage removes the food problem.

    • 3

Learn the four specials rather than tanking them. Each has a specific response and none of them is optional at this level.

Dying here does not fail the quest, but it does mean the walk back and a fresh set of supplies.

    • 4

Finish, and Prifddinas opens. The crystal teleport, the Agility course, the Zalcano fight and the whole district become part of your routine from here.

    What to do next

Prifddinas is the reward and it is a large one. The Agility course there is the fastest in the game, the crystal equipment is best-in-slot for several ranged setups, and Zalcano is a reliable money maker.

Crystal armour and the crystal bow are made from shards earned in the city. If you use Ranged seriously, the crystal set with a bow of faerdhinen is one of the strongest configurations available.

The elven Slayer dungeon holds several high-level task types, and the city has a bank, a max-level herb patch and most other amenities in a small area — which is why many accounts relocate here permanently.
